Hello and welcome. My name is Katie McDonell. I am qualified Psychotherapist based in Brighton and Hove. I am here to guide you through challenging life experiences working together through their obstacles and limitations. In developing awareness of your own process, you can become increasingly more able to discover beneficial choices and perspectives.
I am a registered member of counselling regulatory organisations BACP and UPCA. I am also an active member of Sussex Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, having hosted workshops for members of this association. My training for the Post Graduate Diploma and Master’s degree as a Humanistic orientated Psychotherapist, took place in The University of Brighton. Then I trained with City College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies in London for the Diploma in CBT/REBT. I gained my BA degree in Psychology from The Open University.
Parallel to my private practice I also work as a Psychotherapist with Horsham and Crawley Counselling Group (https://www.hccounselling.org.uk/)
I work in a person-centred manner to empower individuals, offering greater choice and control in their lives. Within this theme my experience has been broad. I have worked with issues of; Leaving care, teenage parenthood, mental health, substance abuse, challenging behaviour, learning and physical disabilities, and homelessness to name a few. Working with populations from the young to the elderly, I have accumulated a wealth of professional, practical, legal, ethical and personal experience which I bring to my practice.
My background as a Psychotherapist developed within an onsite Psychotherapy team supporting NHS staff. encountered a wide-ranging issues including childhood trauma, traumatic workplace incidents, burn out, social anxiety, bereavement, family dysfunction, stress, and depression. I worked collaboratively with each client’s needs, expectations and goals during initial assessment, which I regularly review during the therapeutic process.
